Guidelines for Manuscript Submissions
Jewish Lights publishes books for people of all faiths and all backgrounds. Our authors are at the forefront of spiritual thought. They draw on the Jewish wisdom tradition to deal with the quest for the self and for finding meaning in life. Our books are non-fiction almost exclusively, covering topics including religion, Jewish life cycle, theology, philosophy, history, and spirituality. We do not publish biography, haggadot, or poetry. At this point we plan to do only two books for children annually.
Because of the tremendous number of manuscript submissions we receive, we cannot correspond individually with authors until we receive a proposal of what they would like to submit for publication. A proposal includes:
1. A cover letter
2. A table of contents
3. The introduction to the book
4. Two sample chapters (do not send the entire book)
5. A marketing plan detailing how you will promote the book
6. A self-addressed stamped envelope if the material is to be returned to the author. (Please note that without a self-addressed stamped envelope, your material will not be returned.)
If your project is a short (under 40 pages) children's picture book, you should send the entire text.
Send the material (on paper, no computer disks and no e-mail please) to:

Please note that we cannot accept submissions via the internet.
After sending your material, please allow approximately three to six months for a reply. We are very sorry that this process is slow, but it is the only way we can ensure that all material receives proper consideration.
Thank you for considering Jewish Lights Publishing.
